SEARCH FOR NEW ADHESIVE TAPES FOR PRODUCT PACKAGING

PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

This project was born at the specific request of one of our important customers to improve the performance of the adhesive tape used for the packaging of a product intended for them.

The characteristics requested by the customer were: high adhesiveness, non-release of sticky parts on the product and good adhesiveness in different climatic conditions.

Before arriving at having an adhesive tape with the characteristics requested by the customer and at the same time being machinable on our systems, eight different types of tapes produced specifically with different materials and adhesives were tested (tested materials rice paper, silicone paper, PVC, PP , PTFE tested adhesives, natural rubber, acrylic glue, solvent-based glue), still not reaching the set objective following continuous research, a tape produced in the USA was identified that is difficult to find and with very high costs (Type PPL19 tape), the research then continued until a belt with the same characteristics but with significantly lower costs was obtained (Type 839 belt).

To arrive at the final homologation of the two belts, we had to carry out a certified research analysis through a test laboratory, from which the belts were subjected to aging tests in three different environments (desert, tropical, winter).

CONTENTS OF R&D ACTIVITIES

Of the two types of homologated tape, one is available on the market but with extreme search difficulty, the other is an off-standard that must be specially reproduced.

The tapes have specific characteristics and therefore very different from those normally on the market.
