PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT
Following some reports from our customers for product leaks between the lid and the pourer, we carried out an improvement study on the two items to eliminate the problem.
Losses are found exclusively on products that are shipped by our customers via containers in Asian countries, this shows that the assembly can lose if subjected to thermal stress, in fact in the shipping journey inside the container temperatures close to 50 can be reached. ° C.
To understand how to intervene, we had samples of bottles that had suffered leaks sent, analyzing them in the laboratory we saw that the leak occurs in the coupling area between the two pieces. In the laboratory we made four simulations in a thermo-ventilated air-conditioned cell at temperatures of 35 ° C – 40 ° C – 45 ° C – 50 ° C from these tests we have seen that at 35 ° C there are no leaks while in the other 3 cases yes, this happens because as the temperature increases inside the bottle there is an increase in the volume of the oil this increase in volume decreases the head space (empty space inside the bottle between the product and the pourer) and generates a pressure on the pourer, as this is not an article designed for pressure sealing, it is normal for oil to leak between the lid and pourer and the more the temperature increases, the more the headspace decreases and more and more leaks are noticed.
CONTENTS OF R&D ACTIVITIES
It was therefore decided to intervene on both items (lid and pourer) the area of the two pieces subjected to modification is the one where there is the coupling coupling between the two pieces.
